Spring Checklist for Homeowner Maintenance

Winter is over, and it’s time to make sure that your house stayed in crisp condition throughout the cold. During the spring months, home care is often centered around double-checking for Winter damage and preparing for a stress-free Summer. When Spring rolls around go through these to-do’s to make sure you’ve covered all of your home owner bases:


Spring Cleaning

  • Dust and/or wash removable window screens 
  • Replace your furnace filter 
  • Remove debris left from the melted snow around your property 
  • Clean eavestroughs and downspouts 
  • Turn on exterior water taps - check for leaks


Potential Winter Damage

  • Check caulking for cracking, detachment, or water damage 
  • Check attic and upper level for signs of moisture 
  • Check crawl spaces for leaks or moisture and musty smells 
  • Check porch, walks and driveway for frost damage 
  • Check lawn for ruts and sunken areas - fill in potential trip hazards and water flow routes


Stay Safe and Proactive

  • Test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors 
  • Check sump pump float switch 
  • Reset and test exterior ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI) 
  • Ensure locks and security systems are working correctly
